Google Classroom Tutorial - Adding announcements to your stream

Google classroom has been a wonderful tool for teachers to easily assign materials to their class and keep digital assignments and submissions organized.  The following tutorial shows you how to post an announcement to your students in google classroom.  An announcement is a one way tool for the teacher to post something that they want the students to view but not return submitted work to the teacher.  Announcements can be used to post test reminders, links to sites, view only versions of class resources for students to make their own copies, and more.

  1. Thank you, Jennifer. I teach Senior Language Arts and AP Literature; we have adopted the Chromebook and will be implementing Google classroom within next two years. Your tutorials on posting announcements and assignments were quite helpful. I'm going to enjoy posting quotes of the day and crosswords; I went ahead and viewed how to post assignments and how to set up your Google classroom as well. I think once the whole thing is up and running, it will make sense and be quite efficient and fun; it's frustrating now because they want us tinkering with "classroom" but we have a totally separate email and grading software. It looks as though we don't even have to manually add each student in Google Classroom; that we set up the periods and the students log in, which would be great. Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be referencing more tutorials in the future.

    1. Thank you! We have a separate grading system as well so there's double the amount of work entering assignments in both places. I don't put much of any detail in my gradebook though for the assignments to minimize the workload. We even have a separate email but the students rarely use email so that isn't a huge deal. You'll see that since it is so easy the students will message you through classroom on the app on their phone. Email is ancient for them. You don't have to enter the students. You can give them the class code and allow them to enroll. If the wrong students get into the class, they can be deleted by you. I'll be posting more tutorials through the summer so stay tuned. Feel free to contact me with questions too.
